We are delighted to see that two portraits previously with Isherwood Fine Art are featured in Penelope Hunting's fascinating new biography on the 17th century English female artist Mary Beale. The portraits are of Mary Langham, Lady Delamer, c.1670 and a possible self-portrait of Mary in later life, c.1680.
The author has thoroughly researched the life and work of the artist using original sources such as Mary`s own letters and the surviving highly detailed notebooks kept by her huband, Charles Beale. This book shines a light one of England's very first female professional artists who was far ahead of her time and for many years has not had the attention and recognition she deserves.
